Chiharu Shiota: The Intricate Webs of Japan’s Foremost Installation Artist

Japanese installation artist Chiharu Shiota is a Japanese performance and installation artist best known for creating monumental yet delicate environments that interrogate concepts of loss and memory and the in-between realities of life. Towner, the foremost contemporary art museum for South East England has commissioned Shiota to create an ambitious, immersive installation that will pervade its entire gallery space, enmeshing it beneath layers and layers of intricate thread. Entitled Chiharu Shiota: Other Side, the work will be on display through 5 January 2014.
